Since singer Rick DeJesus brief flirtation with VH1’s Strip Search reality show, his band Adelita’s Way has started to take off. Their debut album is produced by Johnny K (Disturbed, Plain White T’s, 3 Doors Down) and features a heavy dose of radio friendly rockers that will appeal to fans of bands like Theory of a Deadman, Nickelback, and Cavo, although Adelita’s Way is a good bit more well rounded than the aforementioned bands.
The album kicks off with the very catchy anthem “Invincible.” One of the rockiest moments on the album, this is the kind of song that makes you want to pump your fist and drive fast. “Invincible” is a bit misleading though as the rest of the album is much more mid-temp and ballad leaning. Those who love great radio songs though will find a lot to love whereas the hard rockers may feel a little let down overall. Another highlight is “Closer to You” which is quite possibly the ballad to end all ballads. While it’s totally cliché it’s also totally excellent and pretty darn hard not to like. The eighties inspired “Hate Love” is great as well as is the album’s emotional ending moment “Brother.”
Overall, if you like the aforementioned bands then you should definitely add Adelita’s Way to your music collection. Fans of great radio rock will definitely enjoy this but I think that hard rockers with a sensitive side will be pleasantly surprised as well.
