Angels & Demons Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features the music of the incomparable Hans Zimmer as well as violin solos by Joshua Bell. The Ron Howard produced film stars Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor and is based on The DaVinci Code author, Dan Brown’s, prequel novel Angels & Demons.
As with many instrumental soundtracks, you have to see the film to get a realistic feel for how wonderful the soundtrack is. In true Hollywood tradition, Hans Zimmer’s pieces here enhance every aspect of this film, making it an integral part of the experience. These isn’t a mindless rock compilation albums meant to sell itself, it’s a very important part of en expertly done film. When Zimmer’s monks chant in “Air” it’s as chilling as it is beautiful and when “God Particle” dynamically builds from nothing to something nearly cataclysmic, it perfectly suits the moment of anti-matter creation portrayed in the film. The twelve minute and twenty seven second epic “Science and Religion” is a wonderfully orchestrated piece that sets itself apart from the other tracks here because it is one of the few moments that could easily serve as a stand alone piece of classical mastery.
Overall this is a wonderful soundtrack that invokes a myriad of emotions throughout. It follows the film uncompromisingly well and will appeal to any fan of contemporary classical or instrumental pieces.
