There are two types of comedy lovers in this world: The ones that enjoy vulgar comedy ala the Porky’s, American Pie, and Scary Movie franchises and the rest of us. For those that enjoy the former, Baby on Board is for you. Starring Heather Graham, Lara Flynn Boyle, John Corbett, and Jerry O’Connell, this film is billed as a romantic comedy. The plot here is about as simple as they come, a happily married couple’s yuppie lifestyle is disrupted by a pregnancy that changes their lives forever. There really isn’t anything else to it. Site gags abound as does crude humor and a masturbation scene that made me pretty sure that I would have shut this film off had I not been watching it for review purposes.
Overall, this is a terrible movie. I feel I’m pretty open-minded and I tried to look at who would enjoy this movie as I was reviewing it (as opposed to simply stating that I was not enjoying it) and I can’t really come up with anyone. I stick by my earlier statement that fans of vulgar comedy franchises would like this but the plot would be pretty lame for them. Baby on Board is basically a barrage of crude jokes and pretty bad acting. There was a time when I really though Heather Graham and Jerry O’Connell would be major players well into old age but I’m not so sure now. And Lara Flynn Boyle looks so botoxed that you can’t even see her lips move half the time! Geesh! Extras include a photo gallery and director commentary.
