Boot Camp stars Mila Kunis as an out-of-control teen who hates her stepfather and is serving as a stressor in her mother’s life. Based on true events, she flips out during a very upscale party her mother and stepfather are throwing and she is subsequently sent to a teen “boot camp” for rehabilitation. The facility is on the island of Fiji and the troubled teens that are sent there are treated like animals by the “counselors” and the administrators/doctors. Part drama, part horror flick, and chock full of teen angst, the outlaw teens must find a way to escape the island, believing that their lives may depend on it!
I went into this film with a mildly bad attitude to be honest. I doubted that Mila Kunis could carry a film on her own and the thought that this may be a purely teen angst film made me none too excited. However, by about the twenty minute mark, Boot Camp had my complete attention. The idea that this was even remotely real made my stomach turn and Kunis is absolutely amazing in this film. The story wears a little thin towards the end but overall this is a well done film that is worth your time if you like films that are a little “too close for comfort.”
