I always count on IntervarsityPress’s LifeGuide Bible Studies to provide quality, in depth studies that are well worth the student’s time. The questions for each week’s study are always insightful and thought provoking. When I saw John Stott’s studies on “The Cross” and “Christian Leadership”, I knew the combination of his exceptional teaching and LifeGuide’s format would be great.
“The Cross” 13 week study is based on Stott’s book “The Cross of Christ”. It would not be necessary to read this book to do the study, but it certainly whets the appetite for reading the book. Stott brings the message of the Cross of Christ home to every believer, helping us to better understand what Christ accomplished there for us.
In an in depth, yet still accessible way, the study allows the student to discover the centrality of the cross in the Christian Faith, the necessity of Christ’s sacrifice and how it satisfied God’s justice and paid the penalty of humankind’s sin. The study then applies the teaching of the cross to our lives, and leads us to make a more sure personal commitment to Christ knowing what his Cross means to us.
This is a good resource for a small group that really is interested in going deeper and growing in their knowledge of theology and personal faith in Christ.
