Ted DeKker

Infidel (The Lost Books 2)

Thomas Nelson

Infidel is the second book to the four part “young adult” series entitled The Lost Books by author extraordinaire Ted DeKker.  In book one we are introduced to four key characters Johnnis, Silvie, Billos and Darsal as they have been chosen to leadership roles in the Forest Guard.  They are sent on a mission to prove their skills as leaders, however they are sent on a journey that will forever change their lives (click the link for a complete 1340magbooks review of the first book Chosen).

Infidel picks up immediately at the conclusion of Chosen.  Upon their return from the desert the four teenagers are hailed as heroes as they helped thwart a surprise attack from the Horde on the Forest Guard.  Our young heroes enjoy basking in their glory but young Johnnis has a nagging suspicion that his mother (who was supposedly killed by the Horde) is still alive and amidst the enemy.  Determined to get her back Johnnis sets out to find his mother and return her to the forest.  In his journey Johnnis meets opposition and eventually is responsible for the death of a number of Forest Guards.  However this does not stop Johnnis from returning and will stop at nothing to get his mother back.

Book two takes the reader deeper into the mysteries of the Circle Trilogy, in particular the lives of the Horde and their city.  I personally was a little skeptical of the series when I first began it as it is intended for young adults however I have gotten past that and am totally enthralled in the story.  Not since Stephen King’s Dark Tower series have I ever been so enthralled with a series as I am with the Circle Trilogy AND with the continuation in The Lost Books series.  If you have not picked up either the Trilogy or Lost Books series, then I would implore you to go out and get this TODAY.

Now comes the hard part… waiting for Book Three.
