The legend of the struggling musician is repeated time and time again and often the artist is left in the wake of failure. Jason Aldean is no stranger to this path, but has persevered to success. From his home town of Macon, GA and full of determination, Jason paired up with some talented musicians to complement his distinctive voice and artistry. After many attempts to find his way into the country scene, he was finally spotted at a showcase in Nashville, TN. After the release of his self titled album in 2005, he was awarded as “Top New Male Vocalist” by the Academy of Country Music in 2006. Now after having completed 3 albums with 3 number 1 hits and 4 others charting in the top 10, Jason is bringing an extra element to his fans by releasing this Blu-ray that was filmed in March of 2009 in Knoxville, TN at the Knoxville Coliseum.

From the onset of the show, Jason commands a huge respect and presence for a different breed of country. At first look to see a country boy in front of what appears to be a rock band seems off putting, but as the show rolls on, that preconception is pushed away to let the group work as fluid as they do. Song after song certainly shows the talent and unique style that only they could pull off. This show is a collaboration of tracks from his latest album as well as tracks that made him famous. Jason works the crowd well and plays to them with great response. The overall feel is one of high energy and true entertainment.

The bonus material is more of quality than quantity in this case. Jason and the band perform a tribute to one of the greats in music Tom Petty as they play a rendition of “I Won’t Back Down” Along with that tribute is a behind the scenes to this part of the tour and contains an interview with Jason that is spliced into different segments of this extra.

As with the Blu-ray experience on all of the musicians, the audio quality is better than live. It really sets a high bar to be able to enjoy all of the music and vocals without someone screaming in your ears if you were there. The visual aspects were clear as you would expect in a HD presentation. The lighting and music mesh up really well.

I was first exposed to Jason Aldean on a performance on The Tonight Show a month or so ago and was left with some mixed feelings of his style. This show was a solid way to let my appreciation grow past the 3 min exposure I encountered already. These guys are very solid and they have found a niche in the industry that can be the ticket to much fame and success. The only criticism I can really offer is in the drum solo. I really enjoy a good drum solo, however it felt a little misplaced in this show, but hey that’s just me. With all of the venues of exposure to the masses that is being pursued, Jason Aldean is sure to rocket to the top in not time and gain a huge following.
