Kataklysm

Heaven's Venom

Nuclear Blast

In the mid to late 90’s I was a HUGE fan of speed and death metal.  It has probably been nearly a decade since I have actually listened to a death metal CD that I felt worthy of being reviewed until I got the new advance of Kataklysm’s forth coming CD “Heaven’s Venom”.  There was something about this release that caught my attention and after some time mulling this over in my head I figured out what is was that attracted me to it.  It’s fast, it’s heavy and it’s friggin’ big!

“Heaven’s Venom” has all the ingredients to making a psychotic metal CD that takes no prisoner’s. With insane blast beats, super heavy guitar licks, ferocious vocals, and nightmare inducing lyrics Kataklysm has created a CD that will certainly go down in the 2010 metal scene as one of it’s heaviest.  The opening track “Godless Soul” sets the pace very early on and continues to annihilate for 46 merciless minutes.  Some key tracks include “Faith Made of Shrapnel”, “Numb and Intoxicated” and “At the Edge of the World”.

Overall, Kataklysm has taken me to a world that I have failed to venture in for over a decade and it has been an interesting venture.  I cannot say I am ready to go back to this kind of music as my primary genre but I am certainly impressed with “Heaven’s Venom” and I would recommend it to anyone who is remotely interested in the intensely chaotic and melodic world of death metal.
