Boombox is a collection of remixes of Kylie (Minogue) songs. The songs featured are all new millennium material and each distinct remix is done by a different artist. A number of these remixes have been previously available but only as vinyl promotional materials or as bonus tracks on European versions of Kylie’s albums and singles. The featured track here is the high energy Kylie/New Order mash up “Can’t Get Blue Monday Out of My Head.” The remixes here include artists such as Fischerspooner and The Chemical Brothers as well as a host of others.
Remix albums are fickle, fickle beasts. Realistically, if you are not a fan of the house or techno genres than you may as well pass Boombox buy. On the flipside of that, genre enthusiasts will likely fall in love quickly with this album. The album kicks off with the massive sounding Kylie/New Order mash up that offers concrete evidence that Kylie has had her ear to the electronic ground in the new millennium. Other highlights include the Sebastien Leger Vocal Mix of the sexy “In My Arms,” The LA Riots Remix of the title track, “Boombox” (which makes me wonder “What if Big Audio Dynamite were still together?”), and Mark Brown's Pacha Ibiza Upper Terrace Mix of the track “2 Hearts.” Overall this is a fun album if you enjoy a hot dance beat and unique twists on your favorite pop songs. Kylie has long been a credit to the oversaturated pop genre and Boombox offers the same quality she is known for through a variety of alternate lenses.
