Threshold of a Dream is a documentary that tells the story surrounding the massive appearance of The Moody Blues at 1970’s legendary Isle of Wight Festival (similar to what Woodstock had done here in the U.S. a few years prior). Although its cover leads you to believe this is a concert DVD, it’s not really. While a good bit of footage from the band’s performance at the festival is included here, it is interspersed with documentary footage of the band and those closest to them discussing the performance as well as the era surrounding it, including their then new release “A Question of Balance.”
As someone who has never really heard The Moody Blues, I absolutely loved this documentary. In fact, I purchased some Moody Blues records shortly after watching it. Their performance is AMAZING and the way they seem to command an audience of nearly half a million people commands your respect. It’s interesting to watch them look back on one specific show, it’s as if it changed them so much personally that they could recall nearly every detail. This festival was a powerful moment in history (particularly music history) but was completely profound in regards to the musicians that comprise The Moody Blues. I suggest that any one that enjoys rock music check this out.
