Seth MacFarlane is best known as creator of the controversial cartoon series Family Guy. He is also the co-creator of the slightly less controversial American Dad series, which has not been a hit on the same level as Family Guy. This DVD release features a number of shorts and a very skimpy special features section, clocking in at under an hour.
Many of the shorts here look like pre-Family Guy bits. The voices are similar or the main characters look or acts vaguely like Peter Griffin. That said, there are some funny moments here but they are few and far between. Basically, this is a collection of cartoons that are too racy for television and not very funny. If you are looking for racy comedy, the kind where you see the birth of AIDS when a gay flight attendant has sex with a monkey traveling back to Africa or a series of princesses find their frog prince only for him to explain to them that they aren’t supposed to kiss him, they are supposed to touch his penis, then maybe you’ll get more of a laugh out of this than I did. Mostly I just stared at the screen wondering how much money was used to make this that could have been spent on something funnier.
Overall, this lacks on every level. It’s not funny, the animation is pretty standard fare for MacFarlane, and the characters are all too familiar. If you’re a die hard fan of the man then you’ll want to own this. If you’re bored you may want to rent it. I can’t think of a good reason to actual purchase it though.
