Finally a special edition of Spaceballs comes to BluRay! While this isn’t the type of movie you get on BluRay for the impressive special effects, it does look sharp and the audio sounds a lot crisper than on the DVD release. This package comes with both the BluRay and the DVD versions, however the BluRay contains a host of special features sure to delight fans.

Spaceballs is basically a spoof on the entire eighties science fiction genre of movies. Led primarily by Mel Brooks, John Candy, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Joan Rivers, and Rick Moranis, the film spoofs mainly Star Wars characters but does so lovingly and, more importantly, hilariously! Mel Brooks never fails in his comedies and this is simply one of his best. Scenes like the one in which Dark Helmet’s (Moranis) crew launches their ship into Ludicrous Speed and John Candy as a half-man, half dog co-pilot of a flying Winnebago are odd on paper but laugh out loud funny when delivered by one of the greatest comedic casts of all-time.

Everything about this film is a classic and if you don’t own it already then this is the essential way to purchase it. If you do already own it, I would still consider purchasing it for the massive extras. The John Candy featurette is very touching and reminds us what a great loss he was to Hollywood. The Documentary about the movie is pretty interesting as well, as is the commentary provided by Mel Brooks. This is actually one of the few commentaries I have ever watched voluntarily, let alone enjoyed. The long and the short of it is, if you already own this then you should consider upgrading and if you don’t own it then get to the nearest store (online or otherwise) and offer up your hard earned cash. You won’t be disappointed!
