Summer is the continuing story of three families: the Baxters, the Flanigans and newlyweds, Dayne and Katy. Summer finds Dayne and Katy living in Bloomington, Indiana where Katy has just won the part of starring next to her husband in his next movie. Acting together creates stress in their marriage, and pushing it to the point of breaking. The Baxter’s find out that Ashley and Kari are both with child, but for one of them, all is not well. They spend considerable time this summer praying for the well being of their unborn children. The Flanigan’s summer becomes turbulent when Cody decides to join the Army. Bailey finds Cody leaving to be especially troubling. Through it all, all three families manage to strengthen their relationship with God during this memorable three months.
Even thought I love Karen Kingsbury’s books, this was not one of my favorites. I found the Dayne and Katy story line to be not only slow moving, but also troubling. I was disappointed that as newlyweds, they starting having trouble so soon in their marriage.
