Veil Veil Vanish
Change In The Neon Light
Metropolis Records

Do you feel like taking a trip back to 1988 and reliving the music of The Cure?  Fortunately you do not need a flux capacitor and a Delorian car to do this because San Francisco based band Veil Veil Vanish IS The Cure PERIOD.  Well not exactly, but my goodness these guys sound more like The Cure than The Cure does.  Hopefully VVV is getting used to the constant reference to their predecessors because there is no doubt in my mind that this is the sound they were looking for.

Veil Veil Vanish’s new CD “Change In The Neon Light” is any 1980’s new wave/alternative music lover’s dream come true.  From the onset to the conclusion this little musical jewel is 1988 meets 2010 is the best way!  The first single “Anthem for a Doomed Youth” is a drum and bass driven song that could entice any man or woman to pull out their old Robert Smith Cure t-shirt, tease up the hair, put on the eye shadow and paint the lips red and do the “new wave dance”.

From one standpoint this review may sound like this CD is a complete rip off of The Cure, but I assure you there is enough originality to it that gives it a sound of its own.  However from another standpoint one would be hard pressed to tell the distinction between Veil Veil Vanish and The Cure.  For me this difficult distinction is a good thing because I love(d) the new wave/alternative music of the late 80’s and early 90’s.  “Change In the Neon Light” is a CD that I recommend to anyone who has any fondness of The Cure and the music of this era.
