From the hits series Wizards of Waverly Place comes a collection of related music that is sure to please any fan of Pop music. While I hesitated to put this in, expecting a less than pleasing blend of shameless self-promotion and typical soundtrack fare, I have to say that it will certainly win over even the most jaded Pop fan in short order.
The collection kicks off with a trio of songs delivered by Wizards star and new teen sensation Selena Gomez. They are perfectly crafted Pop gems that are sure to invade your psyche before you know what hit you. Gomez has an excellent voice, causing the listener to wonder why she wasn’t featured on the whole soundtrack. The majority of the soundtrack features songs that have the word “magic” in the title, including covers of popular hits from yesteryear such as “Magic,” “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic,” and “Magic Carpet Ride” among others. Each song is a blast in this radio friendly form and a decent gateway for a younger audience into some truly excellent music. Also turning up are tracks by Disney compadres Raven-Symone, Aly & AJ, and more. Rounding out the disc is the series theme song, also featuring Gomez’s vocals.
I couldn’t be more shocked regarding the quality of this soundtrack. It’s a fun listen that will make you want to dance and not take life so dang seriously. A welcome break from what floods today’s MP3 players.
