Bedrooms is the debut release from NYC’s Xylos. The EP is soft-spoken and thoughtful with some pretty lush harmonies to accentuate the potential monotony of the EP. It features five sugary sweet tracks that would be perfect pop gems if polished up and sold as such. Thankfully though, the band manage to keep the sound slightly raw and musically intriguing, particularly in their choice of instruments.
“Wrapped in a Page” is unquestionably the stand out track here, sounding like the bridge between Hippie Folk and modern day Indie “rock” goodness. It’s the most dynamic track on the EP and feels like a journey without all the epic drama most bands pour into a song like this. “This House We Built” is pretty excellent as well but for mostly opposite reasons. It’s laid back pseudo-soul feel is pretty darn fun and great to chill out too. Sticking to five songs was a smart move as there isn’t really anything to criticize here. Xylos have put their best foot forward and this is a great EP that makes you want to relax and enjoy its depth rather than nitpick the pieces.
