You Had Me At Goodbye

Dancy Ames can’t seem to keep herself from being “distracted” by the handsome British senior editor who charmed his way into the job that was supposed to be hers, since she was, after all, Lane Publishing’s top fiction editor.  On a whim, one morning during her usual visit to the local coffee bar, she decided to help the rather frazzled, short-handed owner through a particularly busy morning rush.  His wife, who served up the made-to-order coffees, was away nursing their sick daughter.  Little did she know that her editorial career would suddenly be a thing of the past and this would be her new day job.  But losing her editor’s position allowed her time to get back into writing a book.  Career loss, penning a new book, and a whole messy family “thing” thrown in for good measure makes this a really fun read that you just can’t put down.  She has a philandering father who is reconciling with her mother, she instantly becomes sister to a younger brother, she’s about to lose her family home, and one of her two roommates getting married keeps you hopping along looking to see how each of these little irritations gets resolved.  The beginning of the book hints at being a rather silly, girly story, but it quickly becomes an intriguing page-turner.
